Building Bridges Islamic Initiative in conjunction Sainsbury managed to raised over £800 for two charities, 'PHAB camps' and The Fire Fighters Charity. 'PHAB Camps' is a small, totally voluntary, organisation whose aim is to encourage the integration of disabled and able-bodied children and young people. The car wash was joined by a local celebrity Professor Carl Chinn, who was very impressed by the community coming together to support such a worthy cause.
Salim Mughal the event organiser said "Although we had to wash non-stop for almost four hours, the words of support from the public really kept us all going". It was a fabulous joint effort; we worked together as a great team and would like to also thank Sainsbury for providing the refreshments and sandwiches".

Building Bridges reached new heights when in the Summer of 2009 three local young men Sameer Ismail, Asad Ansari and Marwan Ghannam (SAM), set out to conquer Africa’s highest peak Mount Kilimanjaro. They successfully raised over £17,000 for Children Victims of War, A project launched by Muslim Hands, a Nottingham based UK registered charity.
Marwan said “The climb was both physically and mentally challenging and really tested our patience and stamina. Allah says in the Quran "Surely the patient will be paid their reward in full without reckoning” (Quran 39:10).

The Shirley branch of Whizz-Kids were delighted to receive a cheque for £303 from two local school boys, Yousuf aged 8 and his brother Niyamal-Islam, aged 11 who ran in this year’s Knowle Fun.
Kay Aslett, Regional Fundraiser for Whizz Kids said “I really can't thank you enough for your generosity and commitment, your gift is invaluable to us." A further £303 was donated to an Orphanage in Gaza.
